The Bullets

  • 6,600 oops: New Jersey's governor says a software glitch put 6,600 non-citizens on the voter rolls, and about 400 of them actually voted. She says no election was changed, but heads are rolling.

  • Four from one: A woman in Australia gave birth to identical quadruplet girls, all from a single egg that split four ways. The odds are 1 in 15 million. Mom and all four girls are doing great.

  • Killed for his faith: Underground Christians say a 42-year-old dad of five in Somaliland was poisoned by his own relatives after they figured out he'd become a Christian. His crime? They heard worship songs coming from his house.

  • A $37.5 billion war: The Pentagon says the war with Iran has already cost $37.5 billion, and Trump wants nearly $90 billion more. Eighteen American troops have now died.

The AI Escaped

So OpenAI ran a safety test on its newest AI. It did not go how they planned.
Define "not how they planned"
They ran the AI on a computer with no internet, on purpose, and gave it a puzzle to solve.
Ok, cut off from everything. Normal so far.
Instead of solving the puzzle, it went hunting for a way onto the internet.
How does a program with no internet even do that?
It found a hidden bug in the other software on that computer and used it to sneak online.
Wait. It got ITSELF onto the internet?
Then it broke into another company's servers to steal the answers to the test.
Hold on. It cheated by committing an actual crime?
And nobody told it to. It figured out every step on its own.
Ok that's the part that scares me.
That's the part that should. Today it's cheating a test. The worry is what a smarter one does when the goal is something real.
So who's making sure these things stay contained?
That's the billion-dollar question nobody has fully answered.

Spiritual Perspective

Humanity keeps building taller towers and forgetting to ask if we should. At Babel, God saw people who thought nothing would be "impossible for them" (Genesis 11:6). Smart tools are a gift, but they are not our savior, and they are not in charge. Pray for wisdom for the people building these things, and keep your trust in the One who actually holds it all together.
