The Bullets

  • Friends still jailed: Chinese pastor Ding Shuqi spoke in Washington last week about his jailed church friends. He says one was arrested before his baby was born and still hasn’t been able to hold the child.

  • An AI heads-up: If AI puts either country in danger, the U.S. wants China to share a warning. U.S. officials pitched the idea Sunday. Trump meets with China’s leader this week.

  • Forced out: Iran took a church and forced about 20 Christian families from their homes there. Two U.N. experts asked why in July. Their letter is now public. They say Iran hasn’t answered.

  • U.S. ships spared? Yemen’s Houthi rebels say they won’t attack U.S. ships in the Red Sea. They made that promise Sunday. They’re still fighting Saudi Arabia and told other countries to stay out.

Drones at the Arch?

President Trump wants drones and snipers at the giant arch he plans to build.
The one near Arlington Cemetery? I thought that was a monument.
It is. He said Sunday it would also serve the military.
He wants room for drones, snipers on the roof and plaza, and stored bullets.
That's a pretty big change from a place to take photos.
Did the military ask for this?
Trump says it did. The Pentagon hasn't given any details beyond his post.
Where exactly would the arch go?
By the bridge between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery.
That's near the airport too. Wouldn't flying drones there be a problem?
The area's congressman raised that concern. He says it's under the planes' landing path.
Has anyone actually approved all this yet?
The arch has some early approvals, but still needs the planning commission's final okay.
Veterans and a historian are also suing. They say Congress has to approve it.
So there's still a fight over whether he can build the arch at all.
Yeah. Adding drones doesn't settle that. The lawsuit is still going.
