Welcome back to High on Christ! Did you think that in your lifetime, daylight savings would finally become permanent? Bet most of you had no clue it was even on the docket. Guess that's why you subscribe to this newsletter!

Here's what the world is up to.

The Bullets

  • Check your chalupa: Cyclospora, a parasite infamous for causing explosive diarrhea, has sickened nearly 7,000 people in 31 states through fresh produce, and investigators are looking at Taco Bell.

  • ICE pumps the brakes: After agents killed two drivers during traffic stops six days apart, neither of whom was the man they were looking for, ICE suspended most vehicle stops nationwide while officers get retrained.

  • No more changing clocks?: The House voted 308 to 117 to make daylight saving time permanent. If the Senate agrees, late sunsets stay all year, but winter mornings get dark. Really dark.

  • A $47 billion friendship ends: For the first time in 20 years, Warren Buffett gave the Gates Foundation nothing, sending $6 billion to his kids' foundations instead after the Epstein files hit Bill Gates.

The Girl the Court Sent Back

Have you been following the Maria Shahbaz case in Pakistan?
No. Who is she?
A Christian girl from Lahore. She was 13 when a 30-year-old man abducted her last summer.
13?? What happened to her?
He allegedly forced her to convert to Islam and marry him. Her family has been fighting it in court ever since.
Ok good. Surely the court sided with the family?
That's the thing. Investigators found her marriage certificate was forged and confirmed she's a minor. The court upheld the marriage anyway and sent her back to him.
Wait, sent her BACK? To the man who took her?
Yes. And this keeps happening to Christian and Hindu girls there. Hers is just the case the world finally noticed.
Is anyone doing anything?
The European Parliament just passed a resolution demanding Pakistan protect her. Access to her family, a lawyer, psychological support, and a full review of the case.
I hope she gets out. She's a kid.
So do millions of people praying for her right now.

Spiritual Perspective

A courtroom looked away, but "the Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble" (Psalm 9:9), and He has not looked away from Maria for one second. Pray she comes home. And pray for the girls whose stories never make a headline at all.

Inspiring Quote

We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.
