Welcome back to High on Christ! The people racing to build AI spent the weekend talking about slowing down. What are they asking for, and who would check their work? What will Trump say? But first…

Here's what the world is up to.

The Bullets

  • AI and weapons: Anthropic says a group in northern Yemen used its AI to write missile software. A rocket test appears to have failed. The company says it banned the accounts.

  • Parts for credit: Terry Liu, a border supervisor in Maine, faces theft and property damage charges. Investigators say he took government computer parts, put in other parts, and traded the originals online for credit.

  • Kirk statue vandalized: Charlie Kirk’s new statue outside Turning Point USA’s Phoenix headquarters was found covered in red paint Sunday. It was unveiled days earlier, one year after his killing.

  • Prayers for his captors: Missionary Kevin Rideout spent ten months as a hostage. A new report reveals his ministry prayed for his captors to know Jesus. He was freed in August.

Even the Builders Want Brakes

Elon Musk and the ChatGPT guy agreeing on something was not on my list for this weekend
Sam Altman? What happened
They both backed a call to slow down AI. Dario Amodei started it. He runs Anthropic, the AI company that makes Claude.
Wait, the people selling this stuff want to slow it down?
Yeah. Amodei says AI safety work isn’t keeping up.
He’s worried future AI could break into huge numbers of computers. His first step is letting outside experts into the labs to check their work.
How much access do these experts get?
Legit access. Desks, tools, time with staff. And they could publish problems the company would rather you didn’t see.
That part sounds useful. Saying “trust us, we tested it” only gets you so far
I know Trump's been saying we can’t slow down or we'll fall behind China
He actually doubled down on that on Sunday. He left room for safety rules, but brushed off some of the warnings.
So does this happen with or without him?
Anthropic says it’ll bring in outside reviewers. Getting everyone to agree on how fast to build is still another step.
Okay. I’ll be watching what they actually change

Spiritual Perspective

These leaders can shape technology, but they cannot save us from sin. In 1 Timothy 2:1–6, Paul calls the church to pray for rulers and points to Christ as our only mediator. Pray for Trump and these AI leaders to know Christ, and for freedom to live out our faith.
