Welcome back to High on Christ! Looks like some designer at Stanford decided to replace a student with AI on their welcome banner. And, apparently, felt compelled to make the students slimmer. But first…

  • Health plan crackdown: Federal officials say they canceled 315,000 Obamacare plans covering about 760,000 people last month. They announced it Tuesday, citing missing proof that people qualified and suspected improper signups.

  • Election cases grow: Justice Department official Harmeet Dhillon says 67 people have been charged or convicted of election crimes in recent weeks. She shared the update Monday. Charges alone don’t mean someone is guilty.

  • Charity status stripped: New Zealand is removing charity status from the trust behind Gloriavale, a religious community. Officials found it helped fund child labor and failed to report sexual crimes. The ban lasts three years.

  • AI gets a rename? Trump says U.S. government papers will call AI “super intelligence” instead of artificial intelligence. He announced the change at the United Nations Tuesday, saying he won’t slow its growth.

Stanford replaced a student with an AI-made person on its welcome banners.
They had a real student in the photo and swapped him out?
Yeah. Billy Ramirez, a Latino student, was replaced with a made-up Black woman.
The other two students stayed in the photo, but their faces were changed too.
He actually posed for that photo, right?
At a campus Lunar New Year event. A friend sent him the edited version.
Imagine coming back to school and finding that.
He laughed at first. Then it bothered him that they’d changed how students were shown.
Has Stanford said anything, or is this still just the student’s account?
Stanford confirmed AI was used. It says the edit broke its own rules.
So they already had a rule against this?
Yes. Their policy bans using AI to make or change pictures of Stanford people.
They’ve taken the banners down and say staff will get more training.
Good that they’re down. Did they explain why they replaced him?
The school’s statement doesn’t explain that.
